I was watching a new episode of the little couple last night and I was sad to watch them get the call that their surrogate was not pregnant when it struck me. I really do like them. Perhaps I liked when Jen said that this time around she was going to be as pessimistic as she wanted. It is so nice to have good infertility role models on TV. The media so quickly jumped on the octo.mom band wagon and let us not forget the jon and kate meltdown. It seems there is only interest in presenting these extremes and/or bad behavior (one being a bit of a harpy and the other transfering ridiculous numbers of embryos with no medical indication that she should go with more than 1-2). Also if someone could explain to me how octo.mom could afford all that treatment while being single and I seem to remember she didn't really have a job either that would be great. There are plenty of us that work ourselves to the bone to afford a cycle.
I am not happy anyone has to encounter infertily but I am glad that at least we now have some honest portrayals of what it is like without the extra helping of crazy. This was coupled with seeing Guilana and Bill this week where a rather prestigious RE (one that I actually got a consult with during my desperate days) told her she shouldn't be pregnant for 3-5 years and how she said that this would take her out of the game forever. It really would. I can only begin to imagine the impact of these words. We were almost to the point of being told we were done for good but not quite there so it really isn't the same thing. It is sad to watch the bottom drop out for these couples.
